Many of us have been called the wrong name by a parent, have confused the names of our closest friends, or, most cringingly, called our new beau by the name of an ex. Most people can recall at least one cringe-worthy moment when you wish you could rewind the clock. However, anecdotes are not data. As psychology researchers, we set out to answer a simple question: Why do we so often accidentally call the people we know by the wrong name? Why might this occur? Our results suggest it is not due to people looking alike, nor is it primarily driven by the similarity of the names involved e. The same pattern is observed among friends: Friends usually misname each other using the incorrect name of another friend. We store information about a person in a mental semantic network that contains information about other related people, places, and things. When we try to remember something, units in our semantic network are activated; when enough units relevant to a concept are activated, the information reaches a threshold, and we remember it. In this mind map, a mother likely associates her children with one another.

Commingling credit histories, commonly referred to as having a mixed credit file, fortunately is rare in terms of the number of credit reports maintained by Experian and the other national credit reporting companies. When it does happen, it is most often because of the situation you describe. Mixed credit files are caused by two individuals sharing nearly identical identifying information, such as names, addresses, dates of birth, and even Social Security numbers. For example, a father and son may share the same name, with the exception of a generation indicator, such as Jr.
They may also share the same address, be born in the same month, and perhaps on or close to the same day of the month. Surprisingly, their Social Security numbers may even vary by only one or two digits. If the father or son applies for credit but does not provide the generation indicator or other identification elements, it can be quite difficult to distinguish between them, and so account information could appear on the wrong person’s report. I have also seen instances in which mothers and daughters have shared the same name.
This is common in some cultures, and can result in the same difficulty. To help prevent the problem, I recommend that you always provide complete identifying information, and always use the same name and other identifying information when completing an application. It is essential that the generation identifier always be provided. The best thing to do is always use your full, given name as it appears on your birth certificate.
It may not be the name you go by on a day-to-day basis, but it does help prevent a mixed credit file issue. If your credit file does become mixed, you need to follow a simple process to separate the files.

The case of a man who was accidentally convicted of a crime committed by someone else with the same name has raised questions about how often mistaken identities are slipping through the court system. Police say it is more common in northern Australia, where Aboriginal people sometimes switch names for cultural reasons. The problem has lawyers worried that clients with other people’s convictions on their record are being unfairly punished decades later.
It is a mind-boggling situation, but one that police in the East Kimberley are now having to get their heads around. When a year-old man was arrested for causing grievous bodily harm 13 years ago, police mistakenly identified him as a year-old with the same name. Despite the age difference, the older man was put through the Children’s Court, and the conviction was wrongly set down on the teenager’s record. The error only emerged last week, when the older man was arrested during a fight and his fingerprints were matched to two different identities.

By Sadie Whitelocks for MailOnline. It’s said that women fall for men like their fathers both physically and personality-wise and now a relationship expert has revealed just why this phenomenon occurs. Speaking to Marie Claire Dr. Judith Wright, from Illinois, Chicago, explains that ‘pre-sexual programming’ occurs at a very young age and children learn about relationships ‘based on the way we are treated by their primary caregivers. Even if women have had bad relationships with their fathers they will apparently still go for a similar type of man because they think they can ‘fix it and do a better job this time around.
Learning young: It’s said that women fall for men like their fathers both physically and personality-wise and now a relationship expert has revealed just why this phenomenon occurs. She added: ‘You might think that you’re dating the extreme opposite to your father, and yet the unconscious mind finds a way of slipping back into what’s comfortable. Dr Wright recalls one client she saw who dated wealthy men as a way of rebelling against her father, who had very little money.
However, it transpired that all of the woman’s suitors were ‘distant’ and ‘dishonest’ just like her father had been. The amount of money they had was irrelevant to their underlying personality traits. Running pattern: Even if women have had bad relationships with their fathers they will apparently still go for the same type of person because they think they can ‘fix it and do a better job this time around’.
Dr Wright says those who haven’t had a male role model growing up and more likely to be attracted to an older partner. This is because they’re longing for a responsible, powerful and stable father-figure in their life. She suggests that they could also be hankering after someone resembling their grandfather, who could have been stepping in as a caregiver.
