At Fender, we work on new ideas and technologies while also maintaining the heritage of the old s and ’60s guitar amplifiers. Some of the most timeless and beloved models like the Tweed Bassman and Deluxe, the Twin Reverb and Deluxe Reverb, originally came fitted with Jensen speakers. The voice of these speakers is a part of what people think of as the classic Fender sound. So, it is only natural that we would want to maintain this association. We have been using the “modern” Jensen speakers for almost 20 years now.
They compliment the voice of our Vintage Reissue series amps, the staple product family in our line. When most people think of a Fender amplifier, these are the first that come to mind. Over the last decade, we have also equipped many Limited Edition amps with various Jensen speakers. These limited-quantity amps often feature a differently colored vinyl covering, or a finished wood cabinet.
At trade shows, I’ve actually met guitarists who collect multiple Fender Limited Edition amps, and they love discussing the merits of various speaker types. Sometimes, after we have “field tested” a speaker in one of the Limited Edition amps, it can end up being used in regular production. Our Lacquered Tweed Blues Junior started as a limited edition, and is now part of our regular everyday offering.
We sell tons of them. Plus, in using a pair of them, we shaved about ten pounds of weight off of the amp.

Many blackface amps were stamped with a date code on the inside of the chassis. That means we don’t need info for models such as The Twin, Pro Jr., Blues.
Ok, I’ve been researching this and I keep finding the same answer. Every article I read says that on fender amps after , the 2 letters at the beginning of the serial number denote the year and the month respectively. This would tell me that the L stands for the years , and the O stands for a month 3 months past December. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it as simple as reversing the letters? The L stands for the date December and the O stands for the year ?
Now that seems firm to me untill I checked othe dates and found the Euro way of dating puts the day then the month. I checked two guitars made by fender five years a part. The older was dated the usa way, the newer the euro way. I’m not sure where all you have looked so far but here is what I have come up with ,hope it helps.

While dating Fender amps made before by serial number is all but impossible as records of these numbers were never kept , all hope is not lost—the charts below should prove helpful in dating your Fender amp.
First, it will be useful to you to understand the following five terms in order to choose the correct chart for dating your amp: Silverface , Blackface and Brownface are slang terms used to identify Fender amplifiers based on the color of the control panel these terms are often misconstrued to refer to the color of the grille cloth. Tolex is the textured vinyl material that covers the amp; offered in many different colors and textures over the years. Tweed refers to the two-tone woven fabric that covered many early amplifiers.
On early amps, this material was varnished to make it a more durable covering. Several different types, in vertical and diagonal weaves, were used. Although the dates derived using the charts below will likely be a good approximation, they should not be considered exact.
